Weekly Wrap (27th January 2017)
Welcome to all our new families and welcome back to our returning families! We have had a lovely week sharing our holiday adventures and getting to know our new little Preschool friends.
Our returning pre-schoolers are reconnecting with educators and friends and forming new friendships. Many of our returning children will be in the Kangaroo group which is our transition to school group and are looking forward to being Kangaroos joining in with our Ants in the Apple phonics program and group time work.
Our Wallaby group will include the remainder of our children. Children will be engaged in many learning experiences that reflect their learning styles and stages. Our ECTs Miss Sue and Miss Namita plan and implement the group times for the children. We know that our younger learners need to engage in meaningful hands-on and relevant experiences that are planned for them, not just a simpler version of the transition to school program (ECA 2016). Three year olds are laying the foundation for learning, exploring concepts and building on understandings of the world in which they live. Miss Namita will again lead and plan for the Wallaby group and Miss Sue will lead and plan for the Kangaroo groups.
To ensure our children have had a positive transition to Preschool or back to Preschool we are focusing on building and establishing relationships with educators and peers. We know that young children need to feel safe, secure and supported through strong relationships with others to optimise learning outcomes. Therefore we will be starting our group times in Week 2 of Term 1 (Monday, 6 February).
This week at Preschool, children have not only built positive relationships, they have welcomed new little friends into their lives though respectful and collaborative relationships. Children have engaged in our learning centres with friends and educators, exploring concepts of maths, literacy and science – being agents in their own learning.
