Weekly Wrap (17th February 2017) – children connecting & making meaning of their world
Hello to our Kings Road Families! Another week has flown past with wonderful learning opportunities and children exploring learning centres building their knowledge and understanding, growing friendships and engaging in interest-focused learning.
A few highlights of the week:
- Map making: Children have continued with their interests in making maps. We have created a learning centre specifically for exploring maps. This interest is expanding through children’s inquiry and our teachers adding resources to support children. Treasure hunts are facilitated by children through their map making; from lines and mark-making representing children’s thoughts and understandings to detailed drawings and collages of different areas within the Preschool. We are using Google maps and exploring the wider community through locating different places and our homes. We have also been discussing landmarks so children can include these on their maps. Through this learning children are connecting with their big ideas and making meaning of their world, their community and their relationships within their community.
- Art: On Thursday, children worked on creating a flower artwork, after Olivia brought a flower in from her home. This provided a great stimulus for the children – carefully inspecting different parts of the flower which were then incorporated into their art work with great care and detail. If your child would like to add natural items from your garden to our Preschool for further investigation we greatly appreciate this. Nature continues to inspire our young learners!
- Our Family Information Evening focusing on our curriculum was held on Wednesday. Thank you to our families who were able to come along – the feedback has been wonderful. We will provide information from the night to our families who were not able to make it.
